I am doing pretty good waking up in the morning, getting ready and hitting the pavement before the rest of the house even wakes up. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to go today. The shoes I was wearing to walk/run in are not at all made for such an adventure so I decided today not to try it. My feet and legs are killing me as well as my back and with my recent neck injury I didn't want to take the chance. So today's agenda is to go to Target and get some good walking/running shoes that will do the job. And in the end, not try to kill me at the end of the day.
I am still getting in a good "workout" so to speak these days though. Keeping up with 7 kiddos everyday is the easiest way to burn off the calories. Between going up and down the stairs, running after kiddos outdoors, sweeping the downstairs floors what seems to be ALL DAY LONG its enough to make anyone loose a few pounds a day. Unfortunately, I am noticing I am not having much luck. Despite my change in eating habits months ago, working out, and trying hard not to eat or snack after 7pm I am still struggling with loosing any more weight. I seem to have been at a stand still for a lot longer then I was hoping for. Unfortunately, I do not have the option of going to the gym. We currently don't have one that is close by. Not to mention, my time wouldn't allow me to be gone for a good hour to work out. Evenings don't work well for me at all. Between homework, supper and bedtime. I hate leaving the house after the kiddos are settled in for the night. Plus its my only time to spend with hubby and get things done around the house. Cleaning, sewing, etc.
I am up to any ideas on how to keep my self motivated despite the fact the weight loss part is just not happening. I have put myself on a 20 pounds in 30 days goal for the month of October. Seeing how its day 5 and I am not seeing any real difference, its not encouraging me to say the least. I wouldn't mind getting a fitness trainer or doing a 6 week boot camp program. But money is tight right now and I would like to see if I could do this on my own. Suggestions are welcome.
Until then. I am working out and having fun! The 45 minutes I am able to spend walking and listening to music really gives me a time to think about things that are going on in my life. Free the mind of clutter and craziness. And let me tell you. There is PLENTY of that going around in my life for sure!
Hey Kiley, A few exercise ideas:
ReplyDeleteSpeeding up
Trying to alternate jogging w/ walking so you jog for 30 seconds to start, walk for a 1 minute, etc
Add some hills ( if you can to your route)
Add some lunges as you walk
Try some of these arm exercises http://www.fitnessmagazine.com/workout/cardio/walking/walking-workout-tone-your-arms-as-you-walk/
Add random exercises in during the day: squats while cleaning, calf raises on the stairs, etc
It is good to know that you are carving out a chunk of the morning for yourself. Glad to hear it helps with your mental clutter too!
Thanks T! I actually add two hills to my walk daily. LARGE HILLS!! Let me tell you, they are a killer even on the seasoned walker.
ReplyDeleteI am a speed walker so to say. but I am trying hard to do a little running as well. I have a terrible running gate. Due to spine problems. So I take it easy as not to hurt myself. I wouldn't mind getting a treadmill to help me pull through this winter.
I guess we will just have to see what the next few months hold. I told Jason I wouldn't think of the idea at all of having another baby until I reach my goal weight. So if it takes the next 5 years to do so. Then I guess that is just what we will have to do :-)
I think 20 pounds in a month is a bit too ambitious, when the goal is not met frustration could set in...more. I also need to loose a few pounds, especially before the upcoming holidays. I'm trying for about 2 pounds a week, shooting for a total loss of 15-20 pounds by January.
ReplyDeleteFor me it's not working out, I hit the gym 3-4 times a week. It's food! I love to cook and eat. If your struggle is similar joining a website that helps your really keep track of food might be helpful.
www.fatsecret.com is a free site Then of course there is always weight watchers. They have an online only plan (I just signed up last night) I paid about $60 which covers the first three months, if I choose to continue after that it's about $18 a month.
Also, try adding some strength training to your routine. Push-ups, lunges, squats, jugs of water or dumbbells to do some arm and shoulder work.
Trisha, I totally agree with you. 20 pounds in 30 days, very ambitious. But I figured, if it doesn't work out, at least I tried. If I can loose 25 pounds by my 32 Birthday (January 2nd) then that puts me just about where I was with a few pounds less when I got pregnant with Olivia. This in turn will give me the rest of the winter until June to put me at my goal of 150 pounds. I figured a huge goal would motivate me. But expecting 10 pounds to be the norm and anything beyond that is showing me I am just working extra hard.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking of joining weight watchers actually, they have a place 2 minutes from my house. But anything that costs extra in our lives just isn't doable right now. Money is tight, so I am trying hard to do it on my own. But I will check out that website you sent me for sure!!
When I walk I carry 5 pound weights in each hand. Maybe I should start carrying Oliver and Ezme around more often. That is a good 55 pounds right there :-)
